I’m patiently waiting (sometimes not so patiently!) for the editor to finish with my book. It feels like it’s taking forever, but I’m been reassured by people who’ve been there that these things take time. So because I can’t wait, and I want you to be as excited as I am, I’m posting a teaser.
This is Christopher’s story. He has a new carm and is taking Alexandra to a picnic to meet the family.
Here it is:
I tooted the horn on my three month old 1974 cherry red Porsche 911, and waited. Finally, Alex slipped out of the front door and hopped into my car.
“I thought you changed your mind and were staying home,” I said.
“Never!” she said, putting the picnic basket behind the seat and slamming the door.
“Ouch, take it easy. She’s still new.”
“Sometimes I think you love her more than me.”
“Never happen. You’re my favorite human, and she’s my favorite car. No comparison. Love you both. And you both love me, don’t you, Cherry baby?” I patted the dashboard.
“Sick,” she said with a shake of the head, ponytail flying. “Just sick.”
“Don’t pay attention to her, Cherry baby. She’s a little bit jealous.”
Alex laughed, leaned over and kissed me on the cheek. “I’m so happy you asked me to come along.”
“Like I’d go without you. I never go anywhere without you, and you know it.”
“But…your family reunion. I’ve seen them here and there but not all in one place.” “You know not to pay any attention to my dad if he says anything rude?”
“Yes, dear. I remember. I won’t mind him. Glad you take after your mom.”
